My owner was a poor old man who liked dogs. At first he kept a couple of them at home but well, you know the story; the original two quickly grew to 22 as they had puppies and the puppies had more puppies. Eventually he was forced to move many times and in the end became homeless. We were crammed in wire cages, exposed to snow, sun and rain at the edge of a desolate field near Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture which is how I got my name. He tried his best to feed us and give us water but since we were unable to get out of the bare cage, life was miserable. How we dreamed of running around that huge field. Now I'm not ashamed to admit I've become a couch potato and Oliver says that thanks to me, she doesn't need an electric blanket to warm up the bed anymore, and I sleep like a log.
