There are two most common types of intestinal worms that infect both cats and dogs, roundworms and tapeworms. The former looks like strands of spaghetti and the latter looks like strands of flattened rice grains. Signs of worm infestation can be observed and may cause vomiting, diarrhoea or constipation, leading to weight loss and condition. Note that all kittens and puppies are already infected with intestinal worms from birth as it is passed on from their mother. Deworming pills can be obtained from any animal clinic, the animal should be weighed first to determine the correct dosage. Kittens and puppies are usually given a past like form of medication to kill the worms and should be given for over a two week period. Dogs and cats that are let outside should be dewormed at least once every six months. Indoor cats should be dewormed annually or not at all, so we recommend keeping your cat safe at home.
